ACT’s History

ACT got its start in 1926 as a small flatbed trucking company, operating in Joliet, Illinois as E. K. Motor Service.

In 1972, Tom B. Kretsinger, Sr. purchased E. K. Motor Service. At the time, Tom Sr., a motor carrier lawyer, was in practice with his father, Carll V. Kretsinger, whose motor carrier law practice he had joined in 1957.

In 1981, Tom Sr. decided to change the company name. He looked for something that would personify the company culture of accomplishment and mission. He chose ‘ACT’, which stands for American Central Transport, Inc.

At the time, the trucking company operated both dry vans and flatbeds. In 1994 the company converted to 100% dry van truckload service, where it remains today.

The ACT Pledge

We’re not your typical trucking company. We believe in hiring the best drivers, paying them well and treating them right. That’s not just an empty promise, it’s our pledge.
